How to import resources

There are three ways to import resources from an external file:

1. Importing a Microsoft Project file: in this case, all resources assigned to task and not already existent will be created.

2. Import from a CSV file: the CSV format: you should produce a CSV file with “holes”, as we rely on Thunderbird’s format.

Fields imported and their "column" position:

First_Name -> 1
Last_Name -> 2
E__mail_Address -> 5
Business_Phone -> 7
Mobile_Phone -> 11
Business_Street -> 18
Business_City -> 20
Business_State -> 21
Business_Postal_Code -> 22
Business_Country -> 23

Here is an example line:

Leonardo,Da Vinci,,,davinci@open-lab.com,,055 work phone,,,,333 mobile,,,,,,Via di Vinci 2,,Florence,Tuscany,50100,Italy,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Go to Resources -> import contacts pick "Mozilla Thunderbird (1.5)" (it’s the simplest format).

It will parse the file, page the results, and for each line tell you whether an existing resource is found, and you can choose whether to import the line or not, by selecting a checkbox, and choosing the "import selected" button. We had to ask confirmation for each line, in order not to damage existing data. Remember to go through all pages of the result.

You will need to create login data for those users that can log in.

3. Creating records on the database: this is a bit complex. The tables involved are twk_resource, the main one, which has a one-to-may towards olpl_anagraphicaldata via twk_res_ad. Also necessary is olpl_counter, as the ids of resources are assigned by a counter, and so you will need to increase the last used value of twk_resource in olpl_counter by hand (I told that its complex).

What is the relationship between Microsoft Project and Teamwork?

Teamwork is a server application: you install it once, and it serves an unlimited number of clients, via browser. Project is a client application that serves the local user.

Teamwork runs on any database and server; Project on windows clients.

Teamwork imports most of Microsoft Project files; but the approach is quite different: see

How to ask for help on installation or configuration?

Please post or send us directly the following information:

INFORMATION:
- whether it is an installation or usage problem
- version of Teamwork you are using (e.g. 3.0.7 build 13.066)
- operating system and database you are using
- web server (e.g. Tomcat 5.5.17) you are using, and whether you are using your own, or the one provided in the download
- brower type and version used for testing

FOR INSTALLATION PROBLEMS:
Before posting, download and read the install documentation .
- if you are doing an installation, whether you are using the graphical installer, and if not, which archive you are using

FOR USAGE PROBLEMS:
- all the information found on the “system check” page, if available:
tools -> administration -> debug system check
- check out [..]WEB-INF/log/platform.log for an error reported there for the intended page

- if a page doesn't seem to work, do "view source" of the html of the page and post the eventual error found
- check out the JavaScript errors of the page

LOG AND CONFIG FILES:
send us by mail, eventually cleared of sensitive data, and possibly zipped:
1. [..]commons/settings/global.properties file
2. [..]WEB-INF/log/platform.log
3. [..]WEB-INF/config.properties

If the platform.log file is huge, stop the web server, backup it, clean it, reproduce the error and send that file.

Where is the log file?

The log file, called platform.log, is in [ROOT]/WEB-INF/log/platform.log.

What and where to buy?

The answer depends on whether you want to use, Teamwork hosted, which requires no installation, or download and install it locally.

Teamwork hosted: read here for more information.

Installed version: you can get a free 30-days license here, which will be required by the instaler. When the license expires, Teamwork will start reminding you to buy a license, which you can do here .

Is Teamwork Open Source?

Teamwork is commercial software, but its complete sources are available to all its customers under a non-disclosure agreement. So if the question is "is this free software" the answer is no, but if the questions "are sources available for customers at no cost", the answer is yes.

In detail:

1. Teamwork is not GPL software: it is commercial software; in particular, it is not available for free on use on an intranet: you need user licenses. There is a thirty days trial.

2.A part of Teamwork sources, that which defines the persistent classes, is released under GPL on Sourceforge ; this in order to facilitate application integration.

3. Customers (those who are owner of non expiring user licenses) can receive complete sources of the current release provided they subscribe a non-disclosure agreement.

Are there any capabilities to build custom reports within Teamwork?

Teamwork let you create a custom research in every search form. This research then can be easily printed, you can find the print button clicking on the “Edit” button in the menu.
If this functionality doesn’t satisfy you, you can integrate Teamwork’s database structure with every report’s application thanks to its simplicity.

What is the difference between the repository and the file storage?

File storages are folders on the file system (or Subversion repositories) where there are files and folders.
The repository instead is the directory in which you can upload file, for example the file related to a task or to an issue.

How do I register the license?

To register the license, log in as administrator, click on the “admin” button on the upper bar, at the bottom right of the page there is a “register license” link, opens a popup where you can paste the license and click “register”.
